UNIT 8 - MY SKILLS LIST

Progression To recognise the needs of the Performing Arts industry and my role in it, I have taken the time to examine how I have progressed in these key areas: LO-1: Skills List LO-2: Preparing for progression and further training LO-3: What has worked on the course and what still needs development. LO-1: Skills List Back at the beginning of the year, we were given a skills list that by rob that we would need in order to make our piece as good as possible and develop our skills as actors: Confidence       voice projection eye contact memory practice Creativity use of space respect thick skin range flexibility imagination face communication witty body language  positivity integrity pacing maturity child like control  I feel that compared to my auditions at the beginning of the year to get onto this level 2 course, which I was quite nervous to do, my confidence as an actress has developed massively. Unit 9 - King Ubu

Image
KING UBU CONTEXT: For Unit 9 we will be working and performing a play called 'King Ubu' which is a parody of Macbeth written by Alfred Jerry and translated by Kenneth McLeish.  The play is loosely based around several different Shakespeare plays  and is about a man called Pa Ubu, a friend of King Wenceslas, who his cunning wife convinces him to murder and assume the throne. The play is a satire/comedy following the battle between Pa Ubu and his barmpots with Bilikins and King Wenceslas's army.  We will be working towards putting on a production of this play as a class for our end of year show and final assessments on Tuesday 18th June. This gives us all a couple of weeks to prepare and rehearse. Firstly, were given a copy of the script to read through as a group. The language used in the play is very unique, its a combination of old English, cockney rhyming slang and complete gibberish. For...

Hamilton

HAMILTON THE MUSICAL After being lucky enough to have the Hamilton cast come to the college to do a Q&A with us and the level 3's, we were even luckier to get front row tickets to see the show and have a further Q&A on November 6th. This was a really exciting opportunity for us all and the performance was inexplicably more amazing then I could have imagined, not only did they put on a world class performance - but I also left feeling like I had gained so much personally and from the view of a performing arts student. Hamilton is a musical inspired by one of Americas greatest founding fathers - immigrant Alexander Hamilton. It is told in just two acts and tells the remarkable story of Hamilton and his journey from the bottom to becoming George Washington's right hand man and the personal and political problems that he had to overcome.  Lin-Manuel Miranda is the playwright who after reading Hamilton's biography could see that there was potential to cre...

Movement With Mandy

Image
Movement class In my first movement class, we started by warming up with exercises that got us moving and forced us to pay attention. Mandy called out different numbers that meant we had to perform different movements. for example, calling out the number 1 meant we had to sit down, the number 2 meant run, 4 meant freeze in a pose , 7 meant jump and 5 meant change direction and so on. after this, we watched a video on YouTube of an actor teaching us about Laban Movements.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSuaTj7iQdM Laban Movement was initially used to help choreographers and dancers find new ways to move but is now used to help actors improve their performances physically. These are the eight terms used when talking about Laban movements: Wring Press Flick Dab Glide Float Punch Slash for each of these named movements, its features will fall into certain categories, these include: Direction is either direct or indirect. Weight is either ...
